Why are you reporting this puzzle?

I came across this large family when I was bird watching at Texas's Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. These are Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. This was the first time I ever saw this particular species. As a bird watcher, I wasn't even expecting to see these on my trip and had to go to my bird book to figure out what they were.

Post it if you get a chance and maybe someone here will tell you what it is. Thanks for getting back to me. connie

Connie, I did listen to their sounds on that link you sent. I would have not guessed that those sounds come from a duck. I may have heard them but thought they were coming from some shorebird. Both places that I saw these ducks, also had shorebirds nearby. I got a photo of a shorebird fifty feet away from these ducks. It was a heron of some kind that I have never seen before. As a bird watcher, I will get to add it to my "lifelist" as soon as I can get some extra help to make sure what kind of heron it is. Terry

Beautiful shot:-)

You certainly outdid yourself on this one Terry. Everything about this scene makes us want to see what you saw that day.
Did you go listen to their call, the day I sent the link to you? I think it's a really neat call and kind of unusual. You caught the beauty of the ducks and that wetland perfectly. This is the part of South Texas I love. Thanks. connie

Steve, I just looked the ducks up in my archived puzzles. It was two ducks on a log, posted January first. Terry

Thanks Terry. Either I missed that or my 70+ year old memory is being its usual self! Steve

mojo: Steve, did you remember the pair of ducks I put on here a week or so ago. They were the brand as these. The nice thing about them is that they are not as wary as most ducks. Terry

In all the duck hunting I have done, I have never seen one of those puppies. The most exciting thing that ever happened to me at the local Hunting Preserve was a Wood Duck which undoubtedly was way lost!
