Today is the Chinese New Year, the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays.
2013 is the year of the snake.
To find out what animal sign you were born under go to the following link and scroll down until you see the chart with the birth years and the corresponding animals.

By the way, I was born in the year of the tiger. :-)

Hi Barb, just trying to catch up on all my bookmarked puzzles. I haven't been online much lately except to post and solve a couple of puzzles. Anyway, I just love this one! I've always known I was born in the year of the rat, but didn't know I was a metal rat! I bookmarked your link to look up other birthdays. Thanks so much for the puzzle! :)))

RandomWorship

It gets worse! I'm a metal ox!! Maybe I'm a statue? LOL

But seriously, I can see some aspects of me described there, and maybe it's not so bad to be an ox. But I still wish I was a Palimino horse, with my beautiful mane and tail blowing in the wind. LOL

tigress

You come by your sign and element honestly, Ardy. Got the best of both, right? :-))

ringleader

I was back reading these Barb. My mother was year of the horse element fire. My Dad was rat and water. I am rat and fire - part of each of them.

tigress

One of the interesting things I found, PJ, is that my grandmother was born in September 1890, 60 years before me so she was also a tiger with the element metal. :-)

puzzlejan

Thank you so much Barb, for reseaching and finding interesting info. I'll go check the link...
Such a fine and interesting puzzle you posted - to generate all this insight....
PJ

tigress

I think I figured it out .... each year is assigned one of 5 elements: water, wood, fire, earth, and metal. Once you know your sign (mine is tiger) you can use the following link to check your element:

I'm not too sensitive about my age so I will tell you I was born in September of 1950 which makes me a tiger with the element metal. Those born in September 1962 are tigers with the element water, in 1974 it's tiger and wood, 1986 it's tiger and fire, 1998 it's tiger and earth and finally 60 years later it's back to tiger and metal. I hope this isn't too confusing?? LOL

buckeye425

Absolutely Faye! We're also curious about everything - we can cover so many subjects.

puzzlejan

Barb - I'm really interested in Edie's remark "Only once every 60 years do the signs align to those you were born under." What does it mean? You know?
PJ

tigress

Does that mean that Faye and Katie will be up to some 'monkey tricks'?? LOL

gemstone

Well buckeye, guess you and I will just have to chatter and giggle along together...mind you, we are very intelligent! :DDD

tigress

Katie and Pat, glad you both had fun with this. I'm wondering if there are any other tigers out there? :-))

pdevredis

Given my avatar, it's only fitting that I am a dog! LOL! Really fun puzzle, Barb!

Edie, I'm not sure what you mean about the signs aligning every 60 years... Align with the stars? I guess I missed my chance to celebrate that happening 6 years ago! :-)))

buckeye425

Fantastic puzzle Barb! I'm a monkey.

tigress

How wonderful that you'll be celebrating the year of the Snake which is what your hubby was born under. Please wish him a very Happy New Year from me, Edie.

Oh Jan, are you really JiggyPig. That is so cute. :-))

JiggyBelle

Sorry Barb! I am NOT going to be JiggyPig! LOL
But, the puzzle was great fun to solve! Thanks!!

How appropriate to post today. My husband is Chinese and the big family dinner is tonight. Might I add that I have found many people who will not tell you their sign. Anyone who is sensitive about having their age known. Telling your sign is almost like telling your age. I'm a Dragon and proud of it. My husband is Snake. Each sign has an element. The Snake's is Fire. The element of the year is water. Only once every 60 years do the signs align to those you were born under.

puzzlejan

Oh Barb - I really hope so....
PJ

tigress

This is the year of the snake, PJ, so perhaps this means a really good year for you. :-)
Glad you had fun with the puzzle.

puzzlejan

How interesting, and a fun puzzle, Barb. And I'm a snake - had no idea, and I despize snakes.... Some traits fits, others not :-)))
PJ

tigress

Who knew, indeed, Mandy. :-)) Think I'll have to do another puzzle with other astrological signs. Let's see, I'm a virgo, so that will be another project for me to work on. Glad you had fun with this. :-)

tigress

Good morning, Ardy! Glad to see my memory isn't failing me just yet. We have quite a large 'China Town' area in the city and I'm sure there will be many celebrations going on. :-)

monza006

What fabulous fun, thanks Barb. I've never looked at the Chinese animal signs before! Apparently I'm a rooster.... who knew??? LOL!!

ringleader

You're right, Barb. June and I were born in the same year. A delightful and most appropriate puzzle. Thanks. I know Liane said she would be gone this weekend to celebrate Chinese New Year.

tigress

If I remember correctly, June, I think Ardy is also a rat. I really should have made the rat pink instead of turquoise. LOL

juneshone

Hi Barb, I am a Rat, curious and cunning

tigress

You and Kirsten were born under the same sign then, Catherine. Thanks for stopping by and letting me know. :-)

contomiani

Yes Barb, I am a fan of Chinese Astrology since many years... I am an ox, married to an ox, and two daughters monkey and dog! ..

tigress

Ah, just as I thought, Kirsten. Check this out:

tigress

Thanks, Catherine .... did you check your sign? :-))

contomiani

How funny Barb, I was just reading about the Chinese New Year... and I saw you puzzle! Lovely, thanks

tigress

I'm sure you have many fine qualities associated with an ox, Kirsten. For instance, strength, and I don't mean physical but rather strength of character. I will have to check the link to see what other qualities match. :-)

RandomWorship

Apparently, I'm not really RandomWorship, but RandomOx! :((( LOL
