I've always been partial to the flavor of rum, maybe because my mom flavored her fruitcakes with it, and because my dad, after a long hard day surveying in the wilderness, liked to relax with a hot rum toddy. I tasted one of his toddies once and thought it was horrible.

Bill_I_Am

And as I said previously, my source said they put brandy on it, not rum as the recipe says. I'm sure either is fine.

Plumpossum

Martha Stewart??? ARRRRGGGGHHHHH...
Oh, well. Yes, I have several springform pans. I actually used one of them once.

Bill_I_Am

Put away the Bundt pan, Plum. You'll need a springform. I finally got the recipe! And would you believe it was from Martha Stewart?

The guy told me you have to pour brandy over the fruitcake once a week for a month. No instant gratification to that recipe!

Plumpossum

My mom just poured the juice directly onto the fruitcake and wrapped it up to "mellow".

Bommom

In addition to the brandy that might be in the recipe and stirred into the fruitcake, some people soak cheesecloth in brandy and then wrap the fruitcake in the cloth and let it soak in for a month. I guess when they unwrap the fruitcake, they then suck on the rag until all the brandy is gone. :-)

Plumpossum

Ohboyohboyohboyohboy!!!!

Bill_I_Am

Good news! I found the source of the fruitcake today. No guarantee his wife will surrender the recipe, but I asked. Turns out the secret ingredient is a liberal amount of brandy. Stay tuned.

Elfie

A fruit-cake??? Interesting.. thanks so very much Varda! :D

Plumpossum

Thanks, riveroad; stay tuned.

Bill, I bet if you offered some kind of irresistible reward, the recipe would appear in due course.

When I used to make fruit cakes, I used an angel food pan for the cake that would stay at home, mini loaf pans for the ones that would be given away, both worked very well. Good luck with your quest, Bill. (Plumpy, if he's not successful, I have 2 recipes, a light and a dark I'd be willing to share)

Bill_I_Am

On nine floors? I don't think so!

Bommom

Bill, you could take a bullhorn to work. A quick walk up and down the aisles should flush out the person who took in the fruitcake. No doubt, that person probably received it as a Christmas gift and knew he/she could foist it on the working stiffs.

Bill_I_Am

I'm still trying to find out who made the fruitcake, without success. I may have to hang a sign in the lunchroom.

pumpkinhead

We're all waiting!

Bommom

Boy, you are ready to start baking. You know, I think the white fruitcake recipe would work just as well in the bundt pan, as in a loaf pan. Of course, if you wanted to give it away as gifts, maybe a couple of smaller loaf pans would be the ticket. :-)
