Talavera is a type of majolica pottery made in Puebla Mexico. It is a mixture of Italian, Spanish and indigenous ceramic techniques. The process to create Talavera pottery is elaborate and it has basically not changed since the early colonial period when the craft was first introduced.

Gail, I only got to teach elementary school for 3 years. But, it was my favorite work. It's nice to look back and see a rich life. And, to look forward to what is coming ahead. Thanks for sharing. :)

You are right, Jan. I was reflecting on all the wonderful things I have done in my life. As you said, it was quite the adventure. But most of the time I was the mother of 3, an elementary school teacher, a volunteer, a soccer and hockey mom. Just ordinary stuff, but fulfilling, too.

Gail, what a fascinating life you have lived. I knew about your husband and Tunisia, but all the rest. That is just wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures. :)))

I was on a mission trip with the youth group from my church. We only visited Puebla one day. When I was in college I spent 6 weeks in Guanajuato with a group from a coalition of colleges in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana. Then the following year I spent a semester in Grenoble, France, where I met my husband. I've lived in Grenoble and Tunisia.

Gail - That is the capital of Talavera. Actually there are many knockoffs of Talavera. The only true products come from Puebla. Did you live in Puebla? or were you an exchange student? That must have been fun!!!

Gaillou

I really enjoyed this, Jan. I was in Puebla many years ago when I was in high school.

Elizabeth - thank YOU! The pottery and tile work in Mexico was amazing while I was there. I'm happy you like it, too!!
