C.F. Franke House - 1917
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
Built for a local banker, the C.F. Franke house was built toward the end of the Prairie School period and is one of the last of the Prairie School style houses built in Mason City.
Thie house originally followed he Prairie School style closely. It was centered on a large central fireplace and had broad overhanging eaves over the central section, solarium and first floor entry level foyer. The ribbon windows and rectangular ornamental molding contribute to the strong horizontal emphasis of the house.
The large roof overhang of the central section was removed in 1950, while the smaller overhang on the solarium and front entry was retained. Other than the missing central overhang, the appearance of the front of the house remains unchanged from when it was built. However, extensive additions and modifications have been made in the rear of the house.
