Yes, definitely gnarly. This bird is getting increasingly rare. I was delighted to see it. It was flapping its wings over and over, probably to dry them after going underwater. Of course, by the time I stopped the car, got out and turned my camera on, he had stopped flapping.

Not a bird I gaze lovingly at. Kind of knarly looking.

This guy dives from the surface of the water and chases prey underwater. Grabs fish in his bill, without spearing it.

He looks like he could be a big bird. Not THE BIG BIRD, LOL
