The Southern Magnolia does not lose many leaves and here in Florida is green all year. The Japanese one is bare during the winter, then it flowers and then the leaves come out. At first they are very bright green, but darken during the summer. It is just beginning to have a few leaves sprout out.
Is this a different species of magnolia, or do all bloom first, then grow leaves? Does your pink one continue to bloom after leaves develop? Very interesting to see! :)
I have the usual Southern Magnolia (a huge one) in my front yard. I love its huge white blooms. This one has bright pink blossoms and when they fall off, THEN the bright green leaves show up.
