I planted this five years ago in memory of my brother. My husband pulled it up thinking it was a weed. Realizing his mistake, he poked it back down into the dirt in hopes I wouldn't notice....but, he fessed up when I mentioned an animal must have dug it up. Luckily, it didn't kill it. Doing the five summers, this is only the second time it has bloomed to this scarlet red.

Thanks Pumpkin. Now that I know the name, I need to google it and find out what I can do to make it look nice every year.

Aggie has named it perfectly. Very pretty astilbe, and a nice plant in memory of your brother.

Thank you Snooker and Robyn
Hello Hollybird. I have a hard time keeping this one healthy. I think it's mostly because it is planted where it gets little if any rain so it depends on me watering it......which is not good! LOL
Thank you Joyfulli. That year was a bad year as I lost two of my brothers in the same year......both with COPD..... don't know why people keeps smoking!!!!!

snooker

Beautiful.

It's not only a pretty something, it's a very pretty photo, too. I'm glad your husband confessed, Lyndee. I'm very sorry about the loss of your brother, though. It must be hard.

Lyndee - I just love your flowers. This one is an astilbe (no pet name for it!) I have five or six different colour astilbe in my garden (2 varieties of white, a deep red like yours, a pale-ish pink, and one called "Erica" (which is, incidentally, the botanical name for heather)...and the Erica astilbe is the colour of heather blossoms.
Keep the lovely photos coming! Best from Montreal, Canada.

It's a beautiful colour Lyndee - and with all your rain it should be happy for a while!!!

Hi Cevas. Thanks for stopping by.

cevas

It looks great against the stone!! Thanks Lyndee. I've pulled the wrong stuff up too. Fortunately replanting worked. : )

lyndee

Thanks Celeste.

That sure is pretty :)

Warbler, keeping it moist is my problem as it is planted under the four foot overhang on the house.
Thanks Loveydear, Patti, Bookish, Morris, and Chickie. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Aggie is right! It will form a clump and have lots of red spikesif its happy. They like some shade and not to dry. I to am glad its still there and blooming!!

loveydear

Interesting and pretty color. I'm glad you still have it and it's blooming for you!

PLG1958

I love it!!!!

Indeed, it's very pretty. Tee-hee, we've also mistakenly pulled out non-weeds!

I'm glad it survived, lyndee, because it sure is pretty.

lyndee

Thanks Aggie. It had a name when I bought it, but I couldn't remember what it was.

aggie

Beautiful lyndee, that red really looks against the stone. I believe it to be an Astilbe.
