Had one at home and all my relatives had one. Learned to make pot holders and doll clothes as gifts when I was six. Used one for many years.

There were electric machines in my home ec class in high school, but we had a treadle machine at home. I made many items on it, but my mother made so many, many more. Finally got a portable electric later one. But it didn't have fancy stiches. Sure could make the old treadle sing if I pumped it fast enough. ; )

I was 7 when I learned to use one of those. That was the good old days.

I I have made lots of gathered skirts on one of these when I was a teen!

We had a treadle-operated sewing machine in our attic when I was growing up, and I loved the rhythm I got into while using it...

I have my Grandmothers' in my living room and it still works - not that I use it anymore. Thanks for the memories.

Yes! I learned to sew on one of these in Home Ec. Or tried to learn anyway. I once had to take out a zipper and redo it 8 times!! There were holes in the fabric where I wore it out trying to get it right!
