Perhaps I should clarify: the pic was taken at the Palm Springs Air Museum which has the largest collection of WWII planes on exhibit in the US. I'm guessing they have a few newer ones too! Thanks for the corrections.
I didn't know any of the specifics, but as soon as I saw the photo I could tell it wasn't WWII! The war would have been over a lot sooner if we had these back then.
Sorry to inform you, but this F/A-18 Hornet was not an fighter from WWII. It was about 40-years to late for that war. It arrived for fleet use in the early 80s, not the early 40s.
Just a thought though . . . if they could have gone back in time (like in the movie, "Final Countdown"), they would have had a lot of fun with the Japanese Zeros that they encountered in the Pacific during WWII.
