No there was no event. Italian beaches among others are organized this way. You pay a small amount for the chair (bed) and the umbrella. The different colours ( I think) are to make it easier to find back to your spot when you leave for coffee or a taverna. The beach is kept after, you will get assistance if you need to move the chair, if you want ice cream. In the afternoon they put evreything together and keep the beach clean. You don't pay p person. No drunken people around. Usually no dogs. I think it is a civilized way to spend one's vacation and you meet A LOT OF PEOPLE.

Italy - Private beaches.

Having grown up on the free and easy beaches of Southern California I was pretty surprised to see the precision of this beach. I've never seen that kind of organisation on any beach before. Was that for some event?
