Once the clean wool comes back, we can proceed.
First that thing up in the corner is actually a kind of curry comb for cats. It looks very much like the carding paddles used to comb the wool so the fibers are all running in the same direction. To card, we use two paddles, putting the wool between the two and stroking the wool in one direction. After it's carded the spinner can take wisps of wool and twist them together. Then using the spinning wheel on the right, the spinner can keep adding twisted wisps to the previous twisted wisps, keeping a constant tautness to the string, he or she spins the wheel using a foot pedal (well, this one has a foot pedal) to spin the wheel at a constant speed and produce yarn.

It is Jacki. It's a full winter's work for the sheep, and then another long complicated process for humans to turn it into something useful to us.

pretty amazing how much work it takes to make good wool. thanks jacki.

It is difficult Lunie, and very time consuming. There is the further step of dyeing the wool (after it's cleaned and before carding). Mostly we only get the wool cleaned as we sell it to a textile cooperative, and they want to do their own spinning and everything else.

You're welcome Hanne ;-))

It's much fun to work with Lunie, thanks for this very fine information Jacki! :-)))

It's quite difficult a process til i get the yarn to knit ... But it's all worth it.

Grey and rainy here too. Actually it's only light mist right now and I'm hoping it's going to clear . . . but I'm not taking any bets!! It's not as cold as it looks, 53 F right now, but without the strong north winds we often have. Warmed hugs are much appreciated! And will send some ♥hugs♥ from here for you.

It's a long process. No wonder wool products are costly. Thanks, Jacki. Still grey and rainy here but should be warmer today. Nevertheless these have been dried and warmed ♥Hugs♥
