Extreme Ironing (also called EI) is an extreme sport and a performance art in which people take ironing boards to remote locations and iron items of clothing. According to the official website, extreme ironing is "the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt."

If only he were this athletic! (I'm giggling now. He does use the treadmill!)

dondi

Maybe you could point out that in this case he doesn't have to iron, he only has to *pretend* to iron. It might get him started....

JiggyBelleS

Heck, I can't even get my husband to iron at all! I showed him these photos. He was uninspired! LOL
AND, he is a scuba diver, so there is no excuse!

dondi

That sort of answers it; it's mostly performance art. Nobody in his right mind is going to try to run an consumer electrical appliance underwater - although that leaves unanswered whether these people are in their right minds! And there's no way you're going to iron a shirt underwater, short of creating a bubble of air in which to work.

JiggyBelleS

You present a good question, Dondi! Maybe it is just the carrying around of the paraphernalia? In any case - they had scuba ironers, waterski ironer and so many more!

dondi

I take it you don't have to *actually* iron the shirt? That iron isn't battery-powered. Unless somebody just out of sight is running a generator with a drop cord, although carting a generator to such places would be a task in itself.

Rebecca - and all others who are interested - There is actually a competition referred to as "Extreme Ironing."

There has to be some story behind this photo? Perhaps it's an ad? And is that left wall covered in, ahem, guano?
