Don, OK, now at least you have an explanation as to why GIMP was giving you a problem. I think you'll love it if you don't mind the steep learning curve. Once you master LAYERS you'll be able to master everything else on it. :-)

donquixote

I know of people who use GIMP, somehow" funmoods" piggy backed in with it and wouldn't uninstall and messed with my OS. I'll check out the site you mentioned and changing the category. Thanks.

Oh, it's like softpedia had rave reviews as being virus free... got me there too. ha

Wendy_13

Don, GIMP is absolutely NOT malware! You will have problems with it though if you don't have much memory or space on your computer. Trust me on this. However, I once tried downloading an 'extra' script as an additional effect that a user offered and I did have to get rid of GIMP and then download it again.

I noticed your new puzzles and saw immediately why you didn't get lots of solves. Even though one would think that Art should be the category of choice, you'll get more solves if you put them in the category "Mosaics."

The vast majority of us who create our own puzzles on Jigidi use the free programs out there and we have no problems at all. Really. Honest. ;-)

It would be a shame for you to not at least check this out-
Read what users of GIMP have to say:

Howdy. I've tried GIMP, had to reinstall windows to get rid of the malware. I got it from THE site. I've gotten gun shy about clicking on anything but the garage opener. I'll check on a few of those. Thanks. I'd love to learn digital art but the adobe software that I like is a bit costly- have to save up.

Don, did you ever think about trying out one of the free online editing programs? I think you might really enjoy it. If you don't want to start from scratch, then upload one of your hand-drawn pictures and play around with effects. Here are some links you might like to try:
http://fotoflexer.com/
http://www.lunapic.com/editor/
With the Befunky link, just x out of the stupid warning popup. It's harmless. I always just click on the "x" to get rid of it.
http://www.befunky.com/create/?openurl=upload#/basic
http://pixlr.com/editor/
All of the above are fast, simple, and easy to use (no learning curve), but GIMP is one that has a steep learning curve.

I've been stymied as of late with the creativity. Can't seem to get inspiration for the board, be it ink , graphite, or even popcicle sticks.HA.

Hi Don, it's nice to meet you. I hope my hand improves too. It's not though and I've given it 4 days of rest. I had carpal tunnel years ago but this is something different. I'm not going to create any new puzzles until my hand gets better this time. It's frustrating because there's nothing I'd rather do. Oh well. At least you can be creative. :-)

donquixote

Actually, Don IS my name.. just not the Quixote (officially, that is).

Hope your hand improves. I know how it must be as I work(ed) in freezing weather and jobs often.

Carpal tunnel?

Wendy_13

Don it is then. I'm taking a break from creating puzzles because my hand hurts too much right now. I've said this a thousand times but once more won't hurt. There's not any right way or wrong way to solve puzzles. If you enjoy solving them, then you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. I talk about speed a lot because I used to love solving fast...but stopped solving altogether when my hand gave out on me. Now even creating puzzles is a real problem. I figure that I'll be back in action after giving me hand more of a rest.

donquixote

I suppose Don will do.
Well, Wendy-the-self-taught-puzzle-maker, keep making puzzles. I have fun solving them but most often don't get into the top ten time .

I like the solve and not actually going for the race.

Wendy13

Do you have another name besides donquixote that I can also call you?

Yes, looking up while typing occasionally makes a certain amount of sense. I touch type so I see the words as I'm typing them, BUT I make mistakes ALL the time...and have to go back and retype.

What can I say other than that you're very talented. I'm a self-taught puzzle maker. LOL

And yes, it is good that you're not getting paid for your spelling. ;-)

donquixote

I suppose I should look up once in a while while typing ,plus spell check when finished. OH , wait, of course....I did that on purpose. Thanks for the compliment.Since I'm self taught I guess I feel I'm "not quite there yet". Though I have made a good bit ($) on commissioned work. Good thing I don't get paid for spelling.

Wendy_13

donquixote, NOW that I know that these are drawings that YOU created, you HAVE to let people know that! It will make a huge difference for you. I still think that you should add some color....but that's only if you want to keep your puzzles here for posterity's sake....and for the sake of others who appreciate fine art. You're an artist and you should make people aware of that.
On a humorous side note, you should make sure that your title is spelled correctly....but then, maybe you meant that for this one. ;-)
