Lots of soldiers patrolled the walls every minute of the day and night and had everything ready if the castle should be attacked. Those times were very unfriendly, Denmark and Sweden were fighting for several hundred years and Oeland was one of the places which was first Swedish, then Danish, then Swedish etc. That is why they stopped building, there was no time for it!!
