In 1913 following discussions, International Women's Day was transferred to 8 March and this day has remained the global date for International Women?s Day ever since.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatrical performances, fashion parades and more.

Many global corporations have also started to more actively support IWD by running their own internal events and through supporting external ones. For example, on 8 March search engine and media giant Google some years even changes its logo on its global search pages. Year on year IWD is certainly increasing in status. The United States even designates the whole month of March as 'Women's History Month'.

Thank you all for your appreciation of this puzzle - as some people mentioned, although there is a long way to go for women to be treated equally in the western world, I think it is important to realise that in many third world countries there is much further to go, and many, if not most, women in those countries find it extremely hard to be seen or heard - desite working extremely hard to provide for their families.

As you will have realised, now that I am working long hours, it is not always possible for me to respond as quickly as I would like to your comments, but I can read them in my break!! So thank you, they lift me up during a long day and help keep me smiling :~)))))

Talk about coincidences, Mandy! You'll see later on....and I honestly had NO idea that this day was even celebrated. I think it's terrific. :-)

A great day today Mandy! You've given us wonderful and inspirational images and quotes here! Thank you ever so much!

Hi this is wonderful, I particularly like the image with the step ladder as it shows all types of women working together. A day that deserves celebrating. Although in the UK in legal terms we have equal rights the reality is often very different.

In my house every day is Women's Day because around here things pretty much run by my rules, and that's how I like it. lol
BTW, fun puzzle. Thanks Mandy

My husband's friend in the Ukraine says that IWD is HUGE there and that men better not forget to honor their women on that day. At least flowers had better be given, presents, too.
This was all news to me. Thanks so much, Mandy! :D Happy IMD day to you!!

That it goes back to 1913 is surprising because there is still so far to go. Thanks, Monza.

heard on TV last night, that yesterday was also day for equal salaries for men and women. Is that right? There was a demo in Bern about this problem. here women have still much less pay for equal work, compared to men. How is that in other countries?

Yes, let's celebrate!! Thanks so very much Mandy!

Great day to celebrate .....Hip..Hip..Horray...

A very important and worthy day to celebrate, Mandy. And thanks for finding wonderful images to represent this special day! :-)
