Sea Stars, Center Stage! (M) **
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
** There are about 2000 species of starfish, aka Sea Stars. The Sea Star is not a fish but a marine invertebrate without gills, scales or fins. Instead, it is spiny-skinned and it's mouth is on the underside. It has tube-like feet which it uses to crawl (less than 1 foot per minute) along the bottom of the ocean.
Sea stars vary in size from under 1/2 inches to over 3 feet in diameter. The average age is about 10 years, with a maximum recorded lifespan of 34 years. The most common colors of Sea Stars are red, orange, yellow, and pink. Some of the more unusual colors are blue, purple, green or multi-colored.
Some species of Sea Stars have as many as 40 arms! Some species can regenerate an arm
and can even shed arms as a means of defense.
Sea Stars are carnivores eating sea life like mussels and clams. However, The Crown-of-Thorns starfish is a voracious predator of coral throughout the Indo-Pacific Ocean. One is pictured on the bottom row, center, of today's JiggyBelle puzzle.
