LET'S GO CAMPING !

Last May I got to go bird watching for the first time in this corner of Oregon. I had been around the edges of this area a number of times but not right in it. This is Southeastern Oregon. That part of the state is dry and mostly high desert. However, like the rest of Eastern Oregon, when you get high enough the desert turns back to a forest. The mountains in the background are the Steens mountains. They are rugged without many roads and unvisited by the vast majority of Oregonians. The water is actually a reservoir, but is named Mann Lake. By the way, there was a variety of shorebirds and waterfowl on the lake. My photo was taken the day before Memorial Day weekend and notice the snow. The road I wanted to take leading into that area was still closed by snow. If possible, I would to go back again this year and see more of this big country.
