What a great photo! My aunt and uncle lived in the Pendleton, Oregon area for many, many years. They ran a herd of cattle, so were experienced and accomplished horse people. I loved visiting there since I'm a cowboy wannabe.Yakima Canutt, who was the famous stuntman in the movies, grew up in the Colfax, Washington area (Penawawa was the actual location). He came to fame as a bronc rider at the Pendleton Roundup. As you probably already know, Yakima was a double for many, many western actors. He was also the creator of the famous stunt John Wayne did in "Stagecoach" where he dropped to the ground between the front two horses pulling the stagecoach. He let the horses run on either side of him, as well as the stagecoach, then grabbed the back of the stagecoach as it passed over him. This was actually done by Yakima. Yakima also directed the famous Ben Hur chariott race scenes.
