The nerve of some bears
I'm not used to bears and things in my own yard. I've lived in big cities all my life and moved to this area after I married my husband and retired two years ago. I'll remember about the noise. I'm sure this bear would have bent the feeder all the way down, too, but my husband did manage to chase it away after it bent it partially down.
Looks like my yard! Our bear comes up on the deck and takes the suet andbird seed. Black bears scare easily....just make some noise and they are gone.
What a great shot!!! My parents had a bear come by every spring for a while and bend the bird feeder right to the ground. I guess they wake up awfully hungry and the pickings are slim!
Sandy, I don't go out after dark into our yard! But it's so weird -- we live on the edge of a small town. We're not out in the country! My dog often barks at night, though, and when we look out, there are deer or other creatures. We hear coyotes in the summer. For the last couple of falls previous to 2012, "someone" stole all our pears from our little pear trees. So this past fall, my husband put up a trail cam and discovered two big raccoons running guiltily from the tree. It's an interesting place to live!Dondi, we do have squirrels, but they're the least of our animal issues as you can see, above.
I'd be afraid to go outside after dark. I'd be a prisoner in my own home. LOL
Yikes! And we thought *squirrels* were a problem!
I agree that it's scary. I don't know how far away the bears hibernate from here, but I'm sure they WILL be looking for readily-available food. We'll be careful!
Very scary! That bear is pretty skinny after his long winter nap. He'll be looking for a lot more food.
Actually, my husband took this picture, Higgie, but I'm sure he took it from the deck on that side of the house. Texasstar, yes, we put the bird feeders closer to the house, but we've had suet cages torn down and mangled, eith the suet block totally gone. We're sure bears did that, too!
Well that would discourage feeding the birds! Thanks, scary photo.
joyfully, I hope you took this picture from your house. It is quite an amazing shot.
