These big birds are so elegant looking Jan. I've never seen a crane but have seen herons and egrets which are similar. Thanks for a beautiful morning scene!
Been there done that already. Now enjoying puzzles. As the days get longer they want out earlier and earlier. In the summer I'm usually up at 6:30 and have them out and fed by 7:00. The herons make a horrendous call. The first time I heard it I thought something was being killed. It wasn't till he flew out of one of mine tall pines that I realized it was him. I didn't even know they sat in tree tops.
Actually, I now live in the city, Edie. But, I used to live 110 miles south. In that house we were sitting on our deck with a cup of coffee early in the morning and a pair of Herons flew over us. We were absolutely amazed! We never saw them again. However, in the wetlands very close to that house, you could see cranes quite often.
You certainly live in a cold, cold spot! BRRRR! Glad you are inside enjoying puzzles, instead of outside with the chickens!
Very nice. Do you have cranes where you are? In the summer I have a Great Blue Heron that lives by the pond behind the house. Not sure where they go for the winter. Right now it's a sunny -15 at 9:00 am.
