Why are you reporting this puzzle?

Deriving from the tartan of Clan Campbell, of Argyll in western Scotland, the argyle pattern used for kilts and plaids and for the patterned socks (known as “tartan hose”) worn by Scottish Highlanders since at least the 17th century, is recognized and honoured each year on January 8th on National Argyle Day. (Occasionally you may find argyle spelled argyll.)

Most commonly referring to the overall pattern made of diamonds or lozenges, the word argyle sometimes is used referring to an individual diamond in the design. Layers of overlapping motifs are found in most argyle layouts adding a sense of three-dimensionality, movement and texture. Typically in the pattern, there is an overlay of inter-crossing diagonal lines on solid diamonds. Helped by its identification with the Duke of Windsor, Pringle of Scotland (a luxury knitwear manufacturer and importer) popularized the design. The duke, like many others, used the argyle design pattern for golf clothing on both jerseys and long socks that were needed for the plus-fours trouser fashion of the day.

skpy

Too true.

monza006

Exactly my sentiments about the whole thing - nobody seems exactly sure of why it's happening, but if everybody would reduce their carbon footprint, and try to be as environmentally friendly as they possibly can, I'm sure all those grains of sand must add up to something eventually!!

skpy

Well, I believe we are having an impact on the whole thing, but how much and what type of effect it will have remains to be seen. I try to do my part, but it's like a grain of sand. I'll enjoy whatever I get - the good and the bad!

I've read so much conflicting stuff about global warming I've tended to just accept that what we get is what we'll get!! We still get most of our mild weather from the gulf stream, so I guess if it moves south it will also leave us with colder and more extreme weather! I don't know if anyone knows!! LOL

skpy

Well, that's possible, but from what I read, we here in New England will suffer colder, more extreme winters due to global warning - the gulf stream that helps temper the weather here in the winter, will move farther South and in doing so subject us to more extreme weather in winter. But, we seem to be having milder winters - who knows.

monza006

We don't seem to get proper seasons anymore - yesterday was really mild - I suppose it's all part of the Global Warming we're so often being told about.

skpy

Yeah, but it does finally feel like winter - until this past week, it's been quite warm.

monza006

That still sounds rather chilly to me!! We not had any snow... yet!!

skpy

Bit better today, up to 21F and just 1-2" of snow...

monza006

You're so right Amy - both the kitty and the piggy are much cuter than any of the human models I featured!!

Brrrr, thankfully I didn't have to deal with that temperature low this morning skpy... it was frost free for my journey into work, and when I left to come home at 8am this morning!

monza006

Thanks so much Annoxford - it's great knowing you enjoyed the plaid puzzle today :~))

skpy

And, it is certainly a good day for argyle sweaters, socks, hats, etc. Started out at -5 this morning!

What could be cuter than a kitten in an argyle sweater?

Well, a piglet in an argyle sweater, of course. LOL
So cute!! Thank you for the fun and informative puzzle, Mandy! :))

A plaid lover, I am partial to Argyle. You puzzle is super! Thank you.
