Jane, oh, I know what you're talking about! Actually, when I was young, my family had a lot of money and we had one of those "tacky" tables by the pool, and I used to love looking at it. I'll see about creating one with a design in it. ;-)
Mandy, it would appear that all four of us like those tacky tiles.*
My first house had worktops made of little tiles like these... only not nearly so nice... they were all brown!!! I love these, and could be converted to tiled worktops again if I could get them in this pattern!!! Thanks Wendy :~)
It was definitely worth it, Wendy, and I'd love to solve another one with this effect. Maybe the messing around for this one would let you achieve it more quickly on another? The tiles remind me of concrete picnic tables inset with broken pieces of ceramic tile that were popular in Texas when I was growing up. The tables were kind of tacky, I guess, but the tiles were beautiful.
I am definitely going to do yours, but, having just finished the above puzzle, I think I'll wait a little bit...! LOL! Striking tiles--love the glazed effect!
Thank you, Jane. I messed around for quite some time to get that effect...but I think it was worth it. The tiles remind me of some vintage ashtrays made with this type of mosaic tile that I had when I was much younger
