Animals/birds do adapt to changing tempertures.

Good book: James Alexander Thom's Follow the River, which addresses the issue of adapting to cold, from an account of a real woman, Mary Ingles. Amazing how the real woman survived winter conditions as she was struggling to return to her home. So even humans can adapt.
