When I was living in England in 1981 (and drove my sister on a 1-week tour of Scotland), I used to be amused by many signs - e.g. "Toilets via subway" (subway meant a walkway under the road; the mass transit system was "the tube") - but "Have you paid and displayed?" was one of my favorites. Strangely, after all this time the same system has appeared recently in Cambridge MA where I live!
Hi Zatoichicat. First of all, let me tell you that I am not Scottish, but American. I used to live in Scotland, and was just there in November for two weeks. I am posting some of the photos I took there, along with a few words of explanation. I am glad to hear that you like Scotland and everything Scottish. I am sure you would be "in heaven" if you were to pay a visit some day. Thank you for stopping by!
Hello. I just found you... and your puzzles... I love everything Scottish.... I guess, as I told "Free Tibet*" that the only way I'd (we'd) be able to visit your (and his) beautiful country(s), would be to win the lottery. When I was a child, and first heard the bagpipes playing, it changed my life. Everything thereafter was different. Must have been a previous incarnation.. :-))))
You are most welcome, Robyn and Ank. Yes, Ank, I had to pay a fortune on parking that day. I did "Pay and Display," and carefully kept my eye on the time, so I didn't run out and get a ticket. I wasn't there all day, thankfully. I paid for 2 hours over by Princes Street, then 2 hours here by the castle. Then we went home.
I was not my car, in that I owned it. It was my car, in that I rented it. It was a snappy little metallic blue Peugeot 207 and it went fast and hugged the road nicely. Sweet!
