Stained Glass #19

I haven't been to Boston yet, Jeannie. (Hubby has. He gets to see places on business but not long enough to do much sightseeing.) I really enjoyed sightseeing in Chicago...the architecture just blew me away. We'll have to do a trip to Boston too. It's comparable, distance wise, for us.

All this talk about Chicago, and the Navy Peir...makes me want to go back to Chicago for a visit. It's one of my favorite cities along with Boston.

It was a wonderful city to visit. I had heard some awful stories about the east side etc. and I am sure, like so many large cities, that there are problem areas. (We have them here.) However, walking around the downtown core was an amazing experience. The architecture just has to be seen. I just stood in one of the squares and just turned around, gawping. It seemed like there were examples of every major American architect post-1871. With the great fire (of that date) destroying most of the buildings in the area (the then new Water Tower survived), it seems to me that the powers that be appreciate keeping what they have. So many times I get disheartened to see older buildings that have so much visual appeal being razed and replaced. Bravo, I say.
