Keep praising. No, I do find it extremely normal to speak several languages - that comes with tiny nations and travelling. Expect in Greece I have always tried to speak the language - even in France and I don't speak French. In Italy I could communicate in Spanish.
I'm afraid that we Brits are as guilty as anyone at expecting others to speak English. Where I live many people are fluently bilingual in Welsh and English. I speak/understand some Welsh. I used to be reasonably fluent in French but I've not used it for so long that I have forgotten most of it. I will praise your use of English again as long as you don't insult me back!! lol
So was German and the Danes speak no German if avoidable. English is compulsory and for a tiny nation languages are essential. Once insulted an American, who was paying me compliments for my language skills - I told him that I thought it was normal to speak some 3-4 languages. I really didn't mean to insult him - that find it normal to speak more than my native language
I grew up on UK humour, UK thrillers etc. Anything UK was OK with the Danes. I do love the UK thrillers - the Swedish ones are very good too, but I do love the English language
I'm surprised that you have heard of Benny Hill, but his humour is very visual so can be enjoyed by many nationalities. Dick Emery was another comedian at about the same era as BH. They were both very funny.
You are very disciplined if you can wait for the cocktails until tonight. Afternoon cocktails in the sun are lovely followed by a siesta! Or it could be Benny Hill. I'm sure that Lis won't have heard of either. Nice and sunny here today. Hope it's the same for you, Hester.
Hester, at this time of year it is nice to have a daydream! I've got a nice pic of cocktails so I'll post it now and we can dream of drinking them on our island. Let's dream.......................................................
