That "no" should be "not" of course. The youngster is full grown now, but hasn't been around the last couple of days. I hope he has found a mate. Sometimes a flock of 8 or 10 will wander around the school PE field.

Yes, they are non-migratory, resident birds here in Florida. Florida has a very large population of non-migratory Sandhill cranes. These nest 2 doors down in a pond that has lots of reeds and tall grasses around it. My pond is very plant free because of my horses --no that either one has any water since we are in a 6 year drought. Yes, they are a mated pair and the one offspring they raised this year. Sometimes there is more than one. The babies look like yellow downy ducklings on stilts, LOL. They "dance" a lot, especially when you walk toward them. They will walk away, but they are not really scared of people. They will come toward my nephew when he "calls" them.
