SPRINGBOARD
A lightly flexible, iron-shod, stong board, which is inserted into a notch chopped into a tree and used as a precarious platform from which the tree is felled. A relic of hand-power days, it now has only a few practitioners.

A big smile Cathy, thanks, I'm sure I've heard the song before or one similar by the singer ☺☺

Thank you Denise! I'm glad you like this view of the forest. ♥

Thank you Brian. Yes, loggers have lots of amazing skills. I can't remember if I posted this link before but it might make you smile. ☺

Great photo. I remember, as a youngster, watching B&W films of loggers demonstrating their skills in competitions, sometimes using springboards ☺☺

Very interesting Cathy.

Thank you for the extra information Dave. I'm glad you're back. : )

I've seen old photos of loggers having three springboards in a row spaced up old growth trees to get high enough up to cut them. This was in redwood forests. Great photo, Cathy!

Thank you Lyndee, Lorna and Ank. Yes, the new logging methods are faster and easier ... but back then this was all they knew ... so they used their strength to cut down the trees.

puzzeljac

I agree with Lorna. But I think the sound of the old way was prettier as the sound of the new way. ☺

Interesting to see how it used to be done though I would imagine most foresters nowadays would be more than happy to employ the use of modern power tools.

Hmmmm......if it starts moving, I'm out of here!!!! LOL
