Why are you reporting this puzzle?

There is a lot of hope for this little girl. More than $40,000 has been raised for her care, and she will have surgery on her legs and body, plus reconstruction of her face. For those of us who suffer pain in our lives, I ask you to look outside yourselves and read this story.

I ask you to watch this video and find hope:
http://wfla.com/2015/08/19/badly-beaten-puppy-with-big-heart-gets-new-start-at-life/

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — Dogs are called man’s best friend for a reason. They are loyal, loving and they seem to read people in an uncanny, exceptional way. Put bluntly, they just get it. They feel it. They read people well, often picking up right away on someone’s demeanor or energy. “Khaleesi” is no different. The tiny, ebony-colored pit bull mix is highly social. Her big, beautiful, dark eyes are wide with both curiosity and kindness. She doesn’t just look at you, she looks through you. She wags her tail incessantly, in a non-stop state of bliss. Spend five minutes with her and you’ll see she is anxious to cuddle. She thrives on a gentle human hand scratching her back softly. It is clear, this young pup doesn’t have a mean bone in her body. Her mission is bold and yet, basic. It is the need most living beings intensely crave — love. Khalessi wants to be cared for and comforted. She wants to feel secure and safe. And, most importantly, she asks for nothing in return. This compassionate creature is intensely selfless. She is aching to share her unconditional love. But, keep this in mind. The innocent dog with the wide eyes and open heart has been to hell and back in the short year of her life. She has endured unthinkable abuse, filled with cruelty so shocking that when people hear Khaleesi’s story, they burst into tears. Her new human acquaintances, and the list grows longer by the day, are both stunned and saddened.

Who would do this? And why? This little dog would never do anything remotely deserving of even a brief swat on the backside, But, torture? Regular beatings? Chopping off the nose from a helpless, trusting, faithful companion? Evil certainly ran amuck in this angel’s hurtful existence. Again, the question is posed — Why would someone do this? Your heart begins to ache instantly. What in the world did this sweet girl go through? How horrific was her excruciating physical pain and her brokenhearted agony? She, most certainly, was confused and terrified at the same time by her sadistic abuser’s actions. Why? Why are you doing this – a concept, a desperate question she must have conveyed within one glance. She would never get her answer.

Khaleesi suffered the worst kind of physical abuse, the most painful, the cruelest. Doctors call this one of the worst abuse cases they’ve ever seen. The body of this tiny dog is battered and broken. “She wasn’t born this way. Someone did this to her. That’s what is so haunting. Someone did this to her,” said Khalessi’s new mom, Stephanie Paquin, who saved the dog’s life. The passionate animal-activist from St. Pete found her new spirited canine companion in Orlando at Orange County Animal Services when she and her husband were in the city for the weekend. She stopped by the shelter. She had no idea that one innocuous decision would change her life and impact countless others around the globe. “They asked for my help because I run a rescue group. They told me they had a dire case, and since they never say that, I knew it was serious,” Stephanie told News Channel 8. “When I walked in, she rushed into the bars of her kennel, she wanted so much to have love and attention. Then, when I saw her, I burst into tears. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe someone could do this. I knew I wanted to take her home and give her love.”

Indeed, appearances can be a bit jarring, and ultimately deceiving. First off, Khaleesi does not have a nose. It was savagely removed during the endless torture she suffered. She also has two large, prominent teeth that are somewhat tusk-like. On her tiny jaw, sitting high atop her slight frame, they jut uncomfortably out of her mouth, which creates a struggle for eating. The next thing you’ll notice is heartbreaking. This pint-sized survivor crawls along the floor. She is forced to scoot her tiny, twisted frame, using her already thin front paws as leverage. She has no use of her back legs. They are small and frail, limbs that have atrophied into discomfort after heinous, habitual horror. Doctors believe it’s possible this gentle gal, who doesn’t have an ounce of aggression in her, was struck with a blunt-force object, such as a baseball bat. But, she wasn’t just struck. She was beaten intensely, leaving her matchstick-thin spine broken and crushed in multiple places. Her ribs, already poking through her soft fur, were splintered and cracked from the repeated blows. And, her wobbly kneecaps were blown right out of socket. The level of searing pain this pup must have gone though is simply beyond imagination, beyond reason, beyond understanding. As if that wasn’t bad enough, this baby girl, so anxious and eager-to-love her human counterparts, endured beatings, doctors surmise, while pregnant with puppies, nearly losing her life. She was recently found starving in Orlando where, during her daily existence, food and water were used as a form of torture, trickery and torment. Her most basic need was often not met. She couldn’t lap up cool water when she so desperately craved it and needed it for nourishment and nursing.

Not one of her excruciating injuries healed properly, leaving her in permanent discomfort. She can no longer smell since her facial wound was left open to rot after her nose was ripped off of her eternally-trusting sweet face, leaving a lifelong reminder of a painful, vicious past. Scar tissue eventually formed and grew right over her nostrils, essentially sealing them shut, which means she struggles to breathe, often snorting and gasping for air. This also means, she lost her sense of taste, which breaks Stephanie’s heart. “I can put a French fry in front of her, and she’ll eat it. But, poor thing, she has no idea what it tastes like,” she said. Khaleesi’s legs, spindly and underweight, also healed improperly. She tries to balance on them in repeated, noble attempts. It is impossible for her. She can not control motor function after significant damage to her patellas. Did we mention most of this systematic abuse happened before she was even a year old? She was a puppy, scared to death and suffering. But, here’s where the story turns. Khalessi’s past does not define her. It is truly remarkable just how much love Khaleesi has to give, her supply seemingly endless. When her eyes meet yours, and she ambles over to you in her own, endearing, disarming way, you are under her spell.

And then come the questions: What missing nose? What crooked spine? What disabled legs? It simply no longer exists. Her gentle gaze, fueled by inexplicable, instantaneous faith, becomes your reality in her presence. You don’t notice anything except her keen sense of trust. She just knows. She lays her head in your lap and your fingertips become intertwined in her fur. She loves to be touched. No one will hurt her again. She is now in a comfort zone where her one of her favorite things to do is crawl on the floor and through your lap, while treasure-hunting for treats. Those who meet this kindhearted canine fall in love instantly, craving a cuddle, a moment of genuine connection with the kindest creature. Strangers become family to her. Khaleesi wins hearts. After all, she’s named after a wildly popular, strong female character in the hit show “Game of Thrones.” Seems fitting that she is the epitome of a gentle warrior. She has certainly gone through battle. And, despite the wounds and scars, she came out on the other side, not just alive, but on a mission of mercy. Somehow this dog survived and doesn’t display a single shred of aggression. She simply wants to fit in – to play, to love, to fulfill her genetic predisposition in the role she was born to play – man’s best friend.

You're welcome. Thanks for reminding me. I'm glad to see this may have a happy ending. Please look for my newest puzzle, about the two dogs hugging one another. Now that's a happy ending if ever there was one.

flokkid

Thanks, for the update.

Do you have an update on this precious soul?

Octomom2

No, Linda, you did not upset me. I'm actually not sure what in your writing would have upset me. You always leave me lovely comments, and I'm so pleased you enjoy solving and reading about my puzzles. I too get sickened by all that goes on regarding the torture of people and animals.

Here's a link to what Plumpy was talking about:

And here's a news clip:

Also, on my other puzzle:

The last item, #50, on Angel's bucket list is now complete. She has found a forever home, to live out the rest of her senior days in peace and comfort. Yippee! Here's a video of her and her new caretakers:

Linda, whatever it was you said, please don't worry about it. I try and live by the LITS method, something I didn't invent, but something I embraced: "Life Is Too Short" to worry about the little stuff. But thank you so much for being concerned.

lindaisling

I hope that I did not upset you in any way. I also am frustrated by the abuses of any animal or person. I appreciate the puzzles that you post they have given me many delightful hours and and some important thoughtful ones as well. :)

Florida is not unique. From this morning's newspaper :

JURUPA VALLEY: Shelter break-in called ‘a true evil act’

Posted at 09:32 pm

A fourth dog is found dead, while two escaped dogs are found alive and seven more remain missing, officials say. The criminal investigation continues.

Octomom2

As am I, Plumpy. I can't imagine someone doing to this. I just can't wrap it around my brain.

Did you see the story I posted the other day about Hope, another abused dog. Here's the link to my puzzle:

http://www.jigidi.com/created.php?id=TGPC2E7Q

These kinds of people start out by torturing little animals like frogs and turtles when they're young. They then grow up into these monsters. I shudder to think how many there must be in the world. I came across another story similar to Hope's. Maybe one day I'll post it, but right now I don't have the stomach for it. And to think these two stories are in my backyard. Tampa is about 40 minutes from here, but Pinellas Park is very close to Largo, where I live.

Plumpossum

Gail, I am struck dumb by the ferocity of this little creature's treatment.

Octomom2

Hi Linda, of course we were just talking. I can't speak for the others, but I am incredibly frustrated about what goes on in this world. My only forum is Jigidi. I have neither a cell phone nor a Facebook account. I prefer to talk on the phone, a hand-held landline. I unfriended myself years ago. If you have a FB account, or if any of you here have one, please feel free to copy this link and the photo there.

I try to post fun puzzles that allow people to relax and get away from all that goes on around them, but I also occasionally post what I hope are educational or interesting things. I'm surprised and somewhat saddened that not one person commented on my other puzzle:

http://www.jigidi.com/puzzle.php?id=3D3605Z1

I wanted both of these puzzles to be informative and to bring hope.

lindaisling

I have thought a lot about this since I posted yesterday. I am hopeful that all the killing talk is just that, talk, and that in reality everyone would rather educate their neighbors/friends about this shameful practice so that all "good" people would be on the lookout for any signs of abuse and know where to report them (your local police would be the place to start unless you have animal control officers). A fantastic place to educate your online friends is Facebook where a public post can reach a vast community of people who need to know about this issue. If anyone still talks to their neighbors and friends without an electronic device in between them, please do it. (I don't think anyone under 35 does actually speak to people, but of course I could be wrong.) Anyway, thank you Octomom2 for keeping us up to date in this matter. I am always grateful for the education i get here at Jigidi.

Octomom2

I apologize if anyone has seen this who would rather not have. I could have put a filter on this, but I chose not to, so that people could see the ugliness that goes on in some parts of the world. I hope that my cheery puzzles will offset the horror that these photos evoke.

Heidi, Helen and Linda, I'm with you all the way. I believe a child animal abuser grows up to be an adult animal abuser. The Michael Vicks of the world should be sent to Jihadi John in Syria (the one who videos his beheadings). But Heidi, while you're at it, would you please take out everyone who: (a) is in denial on climate change, (b) is decimating the animal population of Africa and the rest of the world, (c) is responsible for income inequality, (d) are the world's polluters (an article in today's paper said nine out of ten fish has plastic in their tummies), (e) are cruel to animals or other people, (f) are imprisoning chimps and apes for "scientific" research, and (g) are warmongering hawks.

There, that should about do it...

lindaisling

The person or persons who did this to her are not going to be behaving differently to the people around them. The thought of what they are doing to other animals and people has just pushed me over the edge. I won't be able to do puzzles for awhile, until I can calm down. Thank you for bringing these issues to the forefront.

lindaisling

I am sick to my stomach also and trying not to breakdown totally into violent sobbing. I don't think that I am going to be able to stop the tears much longer though. Evil is real and alive in the world today and all you have to do is look into Khaleesi's eyes and you know that she has seen it and lived it. She probably was abused in part because they couldn't make her angry enough to fight. Dog fighting is shameful; another form of evil.

Surreal_Heidi

People should be treated the way they treat others.

bhelen

It sickens me, and makes me very angry, when I see/read articles like this!
HOW HORRIFIC!!!
Hopefully, the evil SOB that did this to Khaleesi will be found and gets the DEATH penalty!
May he/she/they rot in Hell, for eternity!!!

Surreal_Heidi

The people who do this deserve capital punishment. They have given up their right to exist because of their brutality. I could easily pull the trigger to remove them from the planet. It would be doing a favor to all life on the planet.
Stories like this make me want to throw up, too.

Octomom2

As do I.

puitepe

people that do that bring out the worst in me............i really hope some day they have to pay, to suffer like their victims..............incredible sadistic monsters

octomom

I'm glad as well, Bulliegirl (I love your avatar). Here's another story, this one from 2014 in Mexico City:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2743178/Surgeons-reconstruct-dog-s-face-previous-owners-hack-nose-machete.html

It's absolutely astonishing what people do to poor defenseless animals, who only want to please their owners. A machete? There must be a lot of evil in the person who would do that.

Bulliegirl

I am a rescuer and have seen this angel's pics on Facebook. There is a special place in hell for anyone that could do such horrible acts to defenseless creatures!!! I am so glad someone special found her and is getting her help where she can live the rest of her life in peace and happiness surround by love!!!

catslave

Heartbreaking...

I think I'm going to vomit. In between the tears! Thank you to these wonderful rescuers. I have a rescued dachshund. How can anyone hurt these sweet babies?

Octomom2

I wish I had the answer to that, June. I did find another article about the rescue organization:

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/news/abused-fla-puppy-receive-facial-surgery/nnL9r/

And here's another one with more photos of this sweetheart:

http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2015/08/khalessi-the-dog-with-no-snout-has-strong-will-to-live/

Sad to say, and not surprisingly, it happened in Florida last week.

My niece was driving home from work in Orlando when she saw a dog tied to a pole. She drove around a couple of times hoping an owner would take him. No such luck. So she put this large pit bull in her car and brought him home. Her husband agreed with her decision. Chance is a wonderful dog, along with another rescue, Chloe. Chance was a bait dog who was terribly abused and has marks all over his body. All of his teeth were filed down so he couldn't defend himself. Chance is so sweet that the worst he will do to you is to gum you to death. Yay for my 20-something-year-old niece for doing this. What a heart she has. She's due to give birth to their first child in January, so I'm wondering how the hierarchy will change once their little boy comes along.

Do you know if the perp was found?
