Thanks for this puzzle robryan. This one is on my bucket list. Quite a few years ago I saw an article in the paper that these were spotted in a small marsh in northern Illinois. I went there in the Spring in hopes of seeing one. No luck. : (

A summer resident back in Kansas but a rare straggler on the East Coast. He has a black mask and all! Thank you Rob.

We have them here and they love to hide in the bullrushes at the shores of ponds. Usually shy, you hear them first. Their call reminds me of a cat in distress - very unusual. This is a lovely capture!
