Interesting comment Tahtinha. It sounds like you're describing (the much larger) Blue Jays and many times they are the ones who are guilty of taking over existing nests that other birds have built. They then kick out the existing eggs so they can lay eggs of their own. (I used to like Blue Jays until I learned this. They do have bright blue feathers to admire though.)
Thank you Shirley. Butcher Birds? What a name! LOL I guess it is fitting.Thank you young man, Laura, robyn and colin. Hope they continue to thrive colin. Thank you!
Lovely pic of a pretty bird, Sandy. I see that this is an Eastern bluebird. I wonder what kind we will find here on Vancouver Island. They were extinct here, but have just been successfully reintroduced in an area about 80 miles south of here. With any luck, they'll show up here sometime fairly soon (I wish!). Thanks for the photo :)
Beautiful chickie - so sad to hear about the eggs!
Oh, I am sorry to hear about the eggs, chickie. Shoot.
Very nice chickster and the bird has that catch light in the eye too.
I love these little guys, wished we had them here, sorry about the eggs, I've had babies in nests and butcher birds raid the nests.
Thank you morris, Patti and Gene.
Great photo and post Sandy and am sorry about those eggs ...... hope others survive for you my friend :-)))))))
(Glad there is hope! Thanks for the info.)
Cute little guy, tu bad about the eggs,
Thank you lyndee and Tatinha.
I've never seen a bluebird before The first time was in your puzzle yesterday. I used to imagine them large and dark blue feathers all over. Thanks a lot for sharing. Sad about the eggs.
So sad Chickie about those eggs. This is such a cute bird, I would have liked for there to be more.
Thank you snooker, mimi, ebkrueg and Patti. Each summer the pairs will have 2 - 3 clutches. and there are 2 more nest boxes down by the woods that I haven't checked yet. So there will be plenty of opportunities with 6 nest boxes available. Even snakes can slither up the poles and get to them. There is hope though.
So sorry about the eggs, Sandy. Will they start over then, or do they have to wait till next year?
My dog loves chasing raccoons . . . .
Precious little bird Chickie, so sorry about the eggs!
So sorry, chickie. That raccoon is making a mess this year.
Thank you jc, Patti, Suzy, Li, JiggyBelle (LOL), Dave, Hanne and tex.Well Dave, I have bad news to report. I just went out there with camera in hand and the nest with 5 eggs has been raided. The eggs are gone! Dad Gummit!!!
I agree with Jiggy! Actually, it's just wishful thinking on my part. These are the prettiest little creatures, and I'd love to have them here. Thanks, Chickie.
Beautiful, thanks so very much Sandy!!
Warming up looks right, Suzy. I thought at first you were despirate for an OLD house photo and resorted to this, Chickie :-). I know, I know, its just the way the bluebirds like them. Any babies yet? Thanks
I am beginning to think that these are beautiful stuffed replicas that you place in perfect position and photograph. (LOL) How on earth do you manage to get such gorgeous photos with beautiful birds in them? Thanks so much, Bird Whisperer! LOVE this one!
Love it! I don't think we have those up our way. At least, I've not seen one, ever. Thanks for sharing yours, Sandy!
Just warming up on top of the nicely weathered bird house.
What a perfect, sweet picture! Thanks Sandy!
Great photo, chickie! Thanks for sharing!
