It was his light through waves of the sea effect that first caught my attention. "Bracing the Waves" is one example, and "American Shipping off the Rock of Gibraltar" is another. Both can be found on Wikimedia Commons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Aivasovsky_Ivan_Constantinovich). Another site with a lot of his paintings is at the Athenaeum archive (http://www.the-athenaeum.org/art/list.php?m=a&s=du&aid=2159). Hugs, Anj
Anj, you know more about ole Ivan than I do. I noticed his paintings often have crisp, warm colors. Check out this collection of over 100 of his works: http://www.museumsyndicate.com/artist.php?artist=186
Thanks for the puzzle, Tweegan2! I hope you're staying warm too.
Ivan Aivazovsky is one of the artists who captured my heart way back when and started me on the path of loving art. Martin Johnson Heade is another. I was captivated by a painting of Heade's at the Museum of Fine Art in Boston. It's wonderful that you used one of Aivazovsky's paintings here. Hugs, Anj
