If you're like me, you "gotta have" hints. Thanks for teaching me something I didn't know, Don! :)))

dondi

Well, it actually helped a little, although I was working a 5x5. 400 pieces in a 10x10, is 4 pieces per square, leaving you with 100 squares to try to match up using tabs and a hint of color. More pieces or fewer pieces include some edges to help match neighbors, and that 21/19 cut gave me some hints.

JiggyBelle

Well, now I know what I've done to get 399. That is really kind of odd, because it seemed the same. Back to the drawing board. :)))))

dondi

I did another 399 and guess what! I'm wrong and Jigidi is right! It seem that your artwork isn't quite square. Counterintuitive as it may seem, if you take a 20 x 20 (400 pieces) - add one to the length and take it away from the height (21 x 19), you end up with one fewer piece - i.e. 399! You've taken away a row of 20 and added a vertical of 19. I should have been able to figure that out; 21 x 19 is an obvious variant!

P.S. - That also means that unlikely as it seems by inspection, 133 must have a factor, and it does: 7. 133/7 = 19, 3x7 =21, and so a 19 x 21 puzzle has the same number of pieces as a 133 x 3.

JiggyBelle

Well, I will be curious about what you figure out! :))))))

dondi

It simply can't be 399 pieces if it's x high and y long - the only combination I can come up with which multiplies to 399 is 133 x 3! I think it's a bug in Jigidi that got the count wrong on this and one other of your puzzles. When I do one, I'll try to remember to count the sides - I'm pretty sure it's 20 x 20.

JiggyBelle

Isn't that the craziest thing, Don? I couldn't believe that it would not make a full 400! Must be something to do with just a few less pixels. So, no, there are no missing pieces! I have solved 2 puzzles over the years that had a missing piece. Talk about frustrating! :))))

dondi

How in the world did you get 399 pieces instead of 400 out of a square puzzle? Did you leave a piece out? :-)

JiggyBelle

Thanks so much, Raini. I solved this one in this size and, guess what, I couldn't find the place for the last piece for 3 minutes! And that was using every background possible. Good grief. Just a BIT too much going on, clearly. :)))
BTW, I like your avatar!

Rainiqui

Holy mac ~ It took me an hour and a half to finish this. I just couldn't find some of the pieces I was looking for. Thanks for the fun Jan dearest !

JiggyBelle

Thanks, Olya!

Gail, I envision slipcovers, so that they can change with the season. Thanks!

Gaillou

There are several I would love to have. Thanks for the fun, Jan.

Olya

cute :)
