"Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose" (1885-86) by John Singer Sargent.
The title taken from the light-hearted lyrics of a popular song, the painting of this scene was quite an undertaking as Sargent wanted to capture the two minutes of twilight when Chinese lanterns and setting sun are at perfect equilibrium.
