Its getting much easier to get and be closer to the Hummers at my feeders since I've been playing with them multiple times a day. They will be gone for the year in a few weeks.

They tend to do this little flutter dance with their wings out and fluttering a little to look bigger when another hummer is flying close to them, to try to keep from being disturbed. That's what I caught this one doing. Notice one foot is up too, as they sort of dance at the same time to appear more active, like something that could "get" the one coming closer.

WOW! (my internet connection has been really flaky for the last few days. Seems a little better today. I've been online now for at least 20 minutes without it going down. Now I begin to see what I've been missing! This is an incredible shot Dave. And explains some of what I've been seeing here. Thanks!!

Smllpkg, they tend to do this little flutter dance with their wings out and fluttering a little to look bigger when another hummer is flying close to them, to try to keep from being disturbed. I'm going to add this to my description. Thanks.

Out of 20 shots, probably 2 are worth keeping, Laura. It takes alot of batteries.

Thanks Lyndee!

I'm glad your enjoying them jyl! I found this Spring that I had to start all over from last year. But we had a couple pairs nest close by which was a first! Thanks!

ANd to think they fly all the way across from Florida to Belieze, snooker, non-stop! They lose 85% of their body weight by when they arrive.

Thanks Joanne for the comment.

My pleasure Ellen, thanks for letting me show them, probably to many of them.

snooker

Such a tiny little creature.

jyl

Wow! Your time-consuming work has started to pay off. This is an incredibly beautiful capture. Thank you for sharing the journey with us. In the spring we'll have to see how many returns you get and how long it takes to get them back to playing with you.

lyndee

Your patience seem to be paying off Warbler. Great shot.

laurajane

Poised for take off? Or just landed?

PutterDutt

GrandmaJoJo

What an incredible closeup. I am green with envy. Thanks, Dave.

This is an adult female Ruby throated Hummingbird, Ami. Juvenile females have much more gray-buff on the bellys. Otherwise it's hard to tell them apart except for size. Right now all the juveniles, male and female, are pretty small, not filled or plumped out yet. Thanks.

loveydear

Is this one a young one?
