In the porch is a broken rune stone from somewhere between 1075 and 1125. It says:

Lo.../To... had this stone raised in memory of Sveinn, his son. A very good *"drengr", ... and (in memory of) his brother. May holy Christ help the souls of both these brothers.

It's very much used that when you find carvings in rocks whatever they are runes or petroglyphs they are painted in red or white so that "common" people are able to see them too! Thanks so very much Lela! :D

So you see Pat - those people back then DIDN'T do it... thanks so very much! :D

They might have to find the letters again and write them clearly - but from us? Plastic things I should thing... Thanks so very much Ardy :D

If the world still exists two thousand years from now I wonder what the people then will find from us. It's incredible this still exists let alone in a readable condition. Thanks, Hanne.

Beautiful .. Don't believe I have ever seen the writing that clear ....

lelabugosi

Well, the writing is certainly very clear......yes, this brings history 'to life'!........

If I had the photos for it I was able to continue - that's what makes so many of the really old churches SO interesting - you can sit down there and sense the presence of history.. Thanks so very much Jacki! :D
