Barcelona - Casa Battlo
Why are you reporting this puzzle?
Casa Battlo is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. A remodel of a previously built house, it was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. Like everything Gaudí designed, it is identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau only in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, has unusual tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work.
It seems that the goal of the designer was to avoid straight lines completely. Much of the façade is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles that start in shades of golden orange moving into greenish blues. The roof is arched and resembles the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory is that a rounded feature in a turret there represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí's home), plunging into the back of the dragon.
The local name for the building is Casa del Ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality.
(Left side of the puzzle - I could not get a good shot of the front of the building. But this angle gives you a feel of the exterior. On the right is a Wiki photo that shows the Nobel Floor in the interior. The Nobel Floor houses a museum that is open to the public.)
To truly appreciate Gaudi's work, look at images on the Internet......or go to Barcelona! :))
