There has been a lot of talk on our national television about the shortage of bees - I guess the loss of the natural wildflower meadows has a major role in that. I remember an interesting talk by a man who ran a wild animal refuge in South Africa who said that even the humblest and most pesky flying insects have a crucial role to play in the survival of every other species, be it plant, animal or bird - fascinating stuff. Mind you, interesting though he was, he was so passionate about it he did rather go on - and on - about it!
Yes, thats his name, he said that there may be an issue with honey production if we don't keep the wildflower meadows. He talked about the need for the hedgerows [being the insect and animal highways] a good man I think and with a concerned heart for the things of nature.
Beautiful. Have you seen the program 'Reviving the Great British Garden'? fronted by a Monty ? excellent program, he showed a number of Wildflower meadows and talked about the Prince of Wales move to further the cause for wildflower meadows.
