YES Michelle THERE ARE MINES OPENING HERE ALL THE TIME. THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO GO DEEPER NOW, SO SOME OLDER MINES ARE REOPENING. I AM ACTUALLY 40KMS FROM KALGOORLIE, WHERE GOLD WAS FIRST DISCOVERED. IT WAS THE THIRD LARGEST CITY IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA IN THE EARLY 19OOS, BUT EVERYONE MOVED TO KAL WHEN GOLD WAS DISCOVERED THERE, HENCE THE SUPERPIT.
I live in Toronto so the real gold here will be held in the banks! (I might have a bit of gold jewelry..lol)
However, the big Detour Lake gold mine, near Cochrane, Ontario, is set to open soon and is projected to be the largest mine in North America. This mine is about 750 - 800km due north (approximately) of me so I won't be finding any gold either! (Gold here is found across the Canadian Shield, British Columbia and in Newfoundland. ) While we have some gold companies that are huge players, they are so not because of our reserves but rather because they have holdings elsewhere too. I looked it up and it looks like the Canadian company BarrickGold owns half of your Super Pit, Kalgoorlie. I think that you Aussies still have more reserves than we do, though, don't you?
Australia is on my bucket list. I hope one day to get down there for an extended visit. (I can already sing Waltzing Matilda! and Click Go The Shears!...lol ) A friend just did the trip with her husband and daughter this past spring and they loved it. In the meantime, I'll enjoy your photos and pretend.... Thanks! Michelle
LMAO...puppy teeth, how well I remember them (8 years later, even)! I recently posted a puzzle of one of our dogs back when she was a puppy and had fallen asleep with all those little shark teeth showing. SCARY!

Gringo looks like a cutie to me. Such a quizzical little expression.
What country do you live in? I am in Canada. We can only do Hibiscus outside in the summer but you have to bring them indoors to over-winter. I haven't had a lot of luck with that. They seem to be an expensive annual for me. LOL
I BOUGHT SOME OF THESE NATIVES AT A NURSERY, BUT THEY ONLY LASTED A COUPLE OF YEARS. I MUST HAVE BEEN TOO KIND. THIS ONE IS OUT IN THE BUSH WITH NO CARE Michelle. AND THE AVATAR IS MY NEW CHIHUAHUA X JACK RUSSELL PUP GRINGO. HE HAS BEEN A JOY..EXCEPT FOR THE SHARP LITTLE TEETH.
