March of the Robins

Windyhills, the birds that make up what we call blackbirds are grackles, red wing blackbirds, starlings and cow birds.

And Cathy, we have had these robins around for a couple of weeks but not in the numbers we have had in the past few days.

Wow, have never seen them in large groups like this.

Windyhills, you probably get a lot more birds then me.
I have wanted to talk to someone from Arkansas about blackbirds for a long time. In January, when we have snow on the ground or the food supply diminishes, the blackbirds head in your direction in the morning and come back just before sunset. I have stood out there for an hour sometimes and watched the birds return and fly to the NNW. I have estimated the flocks to be 50,00 to 100,000 birds. Do they descend on you or do you know where they feed?

Had to zoom in real close for these old eyes - thanks goodness I have an eye appointment next week. It might be time for thicker lenses.

Thanks, aggie. Several of the migratory paths are near here and there are lots of streams and lakes nearby, so we get lots of birds. Also, there are lots of farmers' fields in the area. Of course, the biggest migratory path is on the other side of the state, The Mississippi River.

Never heard of this many robins in one space. Hopefully more robins making their way up here. I do see several. Thanks for posting jc.
