@PopAlan This is in Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mts. I don't think we have any of those in Alabama either. :-)

PopAlan

Interesting, nothing like it here in New England. Thanks for sharing.

dblay

@Joanmeloon Thank you for stopping by. I am sorry it has been so long for me to check but I rarely post anything and only "solve," but I thought I had better check my site, just in case, and there you were. :-) I love barns too. :-)

Joanmeloon

I love barns This one is special. I really love Owls.

dblay

@oldgranny43 I hope you get this message and the other one I answered on one of the Owl pictures. As I said before, I am so sorry I did not see your messages until now. I see you enjoy traveling and I did at one time but now, it just isn't the same with me being on a walker and having leg problems. I am so glad you have the RV and get to do traveling and take Boots with you. I once loved going to The Great Smoky Mts., and I miss that very much. Enjoy your time RVing, my friend and, again, I'm sorry I just now saw your message. Give Boots a hug for me and take care, my friend.

oldgranny43

We live in Shelby, North Carolina. We just got back from Boone. We have a motorhome so we can take Boots with us. Have been to a lot places. For some reason I cannot put the picture of Boots on here. Never had problems before. We went to Cades Cove a few weeks ago. At the end of July we are going to Hatteras on the coast.

dblay

Thanks for dropping by, Trekscifi. I'm glad you enjoyed the barn and reading the memories that some folks have of this wonderful place. Good to see you again and I wish you a beautiful day.

A new barn design to me! Nice that this photo evokes many nice memories! Best wishes!

I understand how you must miss your husband, Mary. It is hard to lose someone we love and I adored my husband. We were sweethearts in grammar school, started dating in high school. We got married when we were 19 and 6 years later, we had a son. When our son was 3 months old, my husband was killed in a wreck where another truck hit his truck head-on. He was one of a kind and I've never looked at another man since his death. I raised our son and he is now 50 years old. :-) He is a good man too and he is good to me. Yes, we Southerners are a special kind of folk. It is good to talk with you, Mary, and I hope you have a beautiful day.

Nicepeach2

Yes, I think Southerner's are a special kind of special. I find it very lonely after my husband died. He was one who wanted my presence at all times. At times I felt smothered, but do miss his smothering. He was sweet and kind. Thanks for writing me. Mary

dblay

It is funny how us "Southern girls" stick close to home. :-)) I live about 3 miles from the very "spot" where I was born, in a small house, where my folks lived. :-) I have lived in Alabama all my life but in a couple of other towns (while my husband was living) but came right back to this place and have lived here for 49 years come this Fall. Glad we are kind of neighbors. (ha)

Nicepeach2

Just read the comments and found I am not the only Southerner in here. I was born I Alabama and raised in Georgia, Columbus and now live in Georgia, 6 miles fro downtown Chattanooga.

dblay

Thank you for visiting my Cade's Cove picture and I'm so glad it brought back sweet memories to you as it always does me. It is a great place to visit and enjoy. Thank you for stopping by also and it is nice to meet you. I hope you have a great day.

Nicepeach2

This puzzle with the name Cade's Cove brought back such a sweet memory. Many years ago my husband, daughter and I took a trip to Cade's Cove, rented bicycles and rode all the way around. It was so hot and we were tired. Actually not a very safe place to ride, then we stopped at the house and bought turnip greens as I recall. Sweet. Thanks for the memories, you and Bob Hope. Mary

dblay

HA, HA!! Very funny comment, shepley458 and I'm glad you enjoyed this picture of this particular barn. It is a little amazing how they built them back then. Nice to meet you and thanks for visiting my site.

shepley458

This reminds me of an overpass they built out in the middle of nothing! Then over a year later they built the freeway and it suddenly made sence! Thanks dblay!! I loved the wagon that is using the bridge as a garage!

dblay

Good morning dbnc2. It is so very good to hear from you and read your comments on this special picture. I'm so glad to hear that you have been there and had a wonderful time and so many good memories. The Great Smoky Mts. are a very special place to me also. I have been there many, many times and never get tired of going there. :)) I have such wonderful and special memories of it also. Thanks for dropping by. It is nice to meet you.

dbnc2

Hi dblay! I will be in Cullman for 10 days beginning on Saturday. Yay!

dblay

Hello pcal2. It is so good to hear from you and read your comment about having lived in Cullman and it being your home town. It is nice to know someone else remembers those trips to the ice house to get that big block of ice to make some ice cream in the summer. (ha) I'm glad you are able to come back here and visit with your family now and then. I've lived in Cullman County all my life except for a few years in both Huntsville and Decatur right after I married. I'm glad you like the Smokies too. We have always loved going there on vacations. Hope to "see" you again soon.

I have a picture of this barn from our trip to the Smokies in 2015. I searched for your puzzles after reading your comments about the ice house in Cullman. Just had to say that I remember fondly making trips to the ice house with my dad many, many long years ago. Cullman is my home town and I look forward to trips back there to see family once or twice a year. Haven't done this puzzle yet, but have bookmarked it and will do it soon. Thanks!

dblay

Hi, Lavende. Thank you for stopping by and checking out this barn. When I first saw one of these there in Tennessee at Cade's Cove, I was amazed and amused. My son took this picture and we have had many comments on it and thank you for yours. This shape must have had a real purpose back in the day because there was another one or two in this area too. Nice to meet you and I hope we "see" each other again soon. :))

I enjoyed putting the barn together but what an unusual shape?? There must be a reason for it but I cannot think why.

dblay

What you see on my "site" is all I have. I have not posted very many puzzles since I've been on. I mainly just love doing other folks' puzzles. :)) Glad you have enjoyed these and I will try to post some more soon. Yes, it is a unique old barn from "way back." We have always loved the Smoky Mountains and were heartbroken about the tragedy of that terrible fire a while back. Thank you, as always, for checking these out. Have a beautiful day, Gloria.

I am very happy I saw this puzzle and reading all the comments was just as interesting as the old barn, if you can call it that. It is sure unique. I liked Ruglady's comments. Are these the only puzzles you do or am I not finding the right place? Thank you.

dblay

Thank you chriswestberry for stopping by and commenting on this great barn. You are so welcome.

chriswestberry

I too love old barns! Cades cove seems to have a lot to choose from. Thanks for sharing this wonderful barn!

dblay

Hi maja1940. I'm happy you stopped by and enjoyed the picture of the old barn. I love barns and this one is very unique but you do see them in Tennessee where my son found this one.

maja1940

I like the creativity and imagination of the builder. That was probably his idea to make something people will notice and comment. Good job man. Whoever you are - or was. Thanks dblay for sharing this picture with us.

dblay

Thanks for your comments, pieceXpiece. The ends are higher than they might look and if you walk under them, you won't "bump your head." :-)) Your explanation sounds reasonable enough but I did not read up on it. Thanks for dropping by.

It does cause wonder, fodus. My guess is that the two slated bottom parts are corn cribs. The top part must hold hay. The end over-hangs are high enough to park machinery under. Must have doors through which to unload/load hay. Would be easy to put hay wagon under the door and load the wagon when hay was needed.

dblay

Thank you for stopping by, KateKMK and thanks for liking the picture.

KateKMK

Great photo, dblay!
Very informative history, ruglady!

dblay

Thank you all for your comments. I'm glad you liked the barn and enjoyed the picture. I thought it was very unique the first time I saw it and I'm so glad my son got a picture of it. :-)

ruglady

Love this too!
The bridge you asked about,"The Alamuchee-Bellamy Covered Bridge is a historic covered span located in Livingston, Alabama. It was built in 1861 and originally crossed the Sucarnoochee River. It was built by Confederate Army Captain William Alexander Campbell Jones.

During the Civil War, the Alamuchee-Bellamy Covered Bridge was used as an access route by the Confederate forces to Mississippi. However, by 1924, it was replaced with a concrete bridge, so it was moved 5 miles south to cross over the Alamuchee Creek. This is where it got a part of its name.

In 1958, it was closed to motor traffic and was replaced by a concrete bridge. It was again moved in 1971 by the Sumter County Historical Society to its current location crossing over the Duck Pond inside the campus of the University of West Alabama.

I've been to this barn and have a photo somewhere. Very cool and unusual design.

fernpoppy

I love barns and this is so unique. Great photo dblay.

interesting barn

gailvold

Unusual barn... loved doing it. Thank you!

sueb

Very unusual. I love old buildings, thanks for posting!

fodus

What was the object of building a barn like this. I have never seen one like this. The ends are a good place to hit your head if you are tall enough.
