Thank you Loveydear!

loveydear

Very interesting looking bird, nice pic too!

PLG1958

Thank you Shirley. :)
Thanks for the info, Dondi. :)

This is the bird we knew as the Sparrow Hawk, although it was also known as the Kestrel. Over the years, there was some confusion as to whether they were the same; nowadays they seem to have settled on calling it the American Kestrel (there's a similar old-world kestrel in Europe).

He's a cutie, Thanks, Patti.

Thank you Beekay. :)

Beekay

They are a pretty bird and do seem to sit on the power lines to hunt the road.

PLG1958

Thank you Gladstone and Dave. :)

warbler

This is a male, females have all rust color on top and males have the charcoal gray on the tops of the wings.

Gladstone

They are colorful birds.
We have a larger falcon here that likes smaller birds for food.
They are not a favorite bird even though they are protected.
Thanks Patti.

Lyndee-- I looked it up. They call it a falcon and a raptor. Here's the link:

Thank you Lyndee! (We crossed.) I'm not sure if they're technically related, but he does go after small rodents and grasshoppers and little things like that.

lyndee

Is he related to the hawk? Great shot Patti.
