Well you were partially right Gabecyr . . . he was quite an accomplished musician and composer. He wrote most of his own film scores amongst other things. You may be surprised ti know that he wrote the music for "Smile" which was later set to lyrics and became a hit for Nat King Cole and "This Is My Song" . . . again set to lyrics and recorded by Petula Clarke . . . :D)
