Seen in Gordonsville, Va. yesterday. I hadn't realized dahlias really bloom best in early fall here. I can't grow them, the deer love them.

With the deer, its a matter of finding the few things they just won't eat. But I can find others Dahlias to take photos of Robyn!! Thanks!!

Most of them do make showy photos, Barb, thats for sure!

Glad you enjoyed it Franca.

Your welcome abel, I hope! ;-)

Thanks Dil, it was a large group of them and quite showy.

Well said Dahling!!

A bowl full of glow in the dark dahlias on the table while sipping mint julieps Toto!

The colors are so warm on this, I imagine it glows in the dark.

PutterDutt

Lovely dahlia, Dahling!!

Dilubreuer

Fantastic shot of a beautiful flower.

Warbler, this reminded me of something from my childhood. The only way my Mother would allow my Father to bring dahlias into the house was if he had hung them upside down first to get rid of any forky tails (earwigs). Thank you (I think) ;-)

Francamia

Beautiful, thank you........

SunnyBarb25

Nothing like dahlias to make for spectacular photos! Thanks Dave for this beauty :)))

i have deer and the biggest slugs in the world. the slugs would do more damage without sluggo. but deerscram on the dahlias will keep the deer away. i've also had good luck with blood meal which also feeds the soil.

warbler

Nice comment Ginger Lady!

I just pass them up if they have much if any damage snooker. There are plenty around if I look enough. I've been known to pick a damaged petal off before too...shhh...:)

Thanks for the comment els. I remember being little, my mother was quite a gardener. She had a friend who grew dahlias and they cut off all the buds except one or two so they would get bigger and they sure did, like dinner plates.

Thanks Beekay, I just think of their stem like an impatiens and think the cold would hurt them but I guess not.

robryan

What a beauty Dave - shame about them being fast-food for the deer:)))

Beekay

Wonderful color to this one.
Yes I noticed that dahlias will be blooming in the fall when most flowers have surrendered to the cold weather.

els2

What an explosion of color! My great uncle( I am85) used to grow magnificent dalias inthe hills at Mineral Wells W.va. I hav a pix of me in older teens, standing in a hilltop by blossoms, w/ thr river--Mahongaheli?-- way down below behind me. Dad's Cooper family's Cooper 2-story cabin is in Parkersburg Park.

Sure is a pretty one. You seem to find the perfect flowers with not a blemish on them. :)

cinderfire

Blooming beauty there Mr photo man. Lovely colors in this flower Dave. Many thanks my pal. :O)))
