This is how she spelled her name: Maraaike. I left out one of the a's by mistake. Yes, that is how all of the girls all spelled their names. I was wondering if they were anglicized.
Jan, I am not Dutch at all. I am a mixture of Sweden and UK. So, no work for me, Ank!
Laurajane... If it was not for Ank, I would not have know a cousin from Zaamslag, NL. My mother was Dutch and tranced the ancestors back to the 15 century. Tell your friends to search for their ancestors. I had a blast doing just that. Ank mooie monument with the golden ball on top.
Hi Laura, that's nice. Are the names written like that, or is it the way you pronounce it? Maraike is written in Dutch as Marijke and Pagter will be Pachter. I think they anglicized the names. Because no one will know how to pronounce ij or ch. Many Dutch people moved over to Canadain in the fifty and sixties. I almost had done to. I was in love with a boy from Canada. He was often for his work in NL.
Ank, I had roommates in college who were from Canada and they all had Dutch parents. Their names are Marjonneke, Maraike and Anneke. I went home with them to Ontario during a term break and enjoyed a taste of the Netherlands! I am still in touch with Marjonneke and her mom, Arda de Pagter.
I am not sure what it is. Maybe the gold ball depicts the sun or another planet. 1750 , wow a long time ago. Whatever it is its lovely. thanks Ankie:-)
Hoi Adriana, jij kwam erbij toen ik aan het zoeken was naar gegevens. Het staat dus in Bakkeveen (een stukje onder Drachten), bij de slotplaats. Ja best een leuk ding.
