Moving rocks about to have them would be something I would do. When we hike, I often find new rocks in my backpack when I get home. SOMEONE in the family has an attraction to them. He could not live in southern IL.
Morris-I say we start a rock business! Are you in? We could make lots of money!

No problem laurajane, Only $3.95 a pound. Also kidding. I wish that there were an economical way to get them down there. 35 cents a lb is good money for rocks.

Morris, when you come this way, load up with rocks and drop them off. Only kidding, of course.

PH, if you ever drive through Illinois, we will have to have a Jigidi lunch (or dinner). That would be great FUN!!! Guess what? Whenever I drive out east I load my trunk up with...yep, rocks. Who would have thought?

I'm 1 hr drive from Padukah now. I moved from Kane county and DeKalb county.

Plenty of rocks up here, in the far north part of the state. You are right the glaciers did not go that far south. Illinois is a long state.

I could make a lot of money selling rocks in IL! Should we ever drive through So. IL, we will bring you ladies some rocks. It is amazing that the geology is like that. I can't imagine being a child growing up without a bunch of rocks to build things from, or finding neat rocks to lug home.

Laurajane, You are sooo right. In No. Illinois, I collected field stone and bordered all my gardens. When I moved to So. Illinois I couldn't find rocks either. Would you believe I started bringing them home in the car everytime I went north to visit? LOTS of rocks and BIG ones too! haha I guess the glaciers didn't come this far south.

You know what I noticed about central Illinois? It was something I couldn't put my finger on for a long time. Having moved out here from NJ, I felt something was missing. Then it dawned on me. There are no rocks anywhere. None. A few years ago, I needed rocks to edge a garden. You know, ones you just go in the woods or along a creek and find? I looked everywhere, but there were no rocks anywhere near where I live. If you want rocks you have to go to the garden center and...BUY them! 15-35 cents a pound. Your picture reminded me of this curosity.
