When I was a young child we had a pump similar to this inside the house we rented. It was in the kitchen on the counter next to the sink.

Goodness! Are we really getting old? We even had a "well" complete with tadpoles. 'Course it dried up in the summer as did the well, but the faithful spring never did (and it just HAD to be a LONG way from the house). All of this was before electricity, central heating/air (never heard of that!). We even churning butter in a 1/2 gallon jar by the light of an oil lamp. Good old days? (Sure like my indoor privy!)

oh , what memories, we had one, had 5 brothers and 4 sisters, one would put their mouth around the spout and one would pump. had a contest to see who could hold the most water, water would come out of our ears and nose, until dad caught us, no fun after that.

Absolutely. It was fun to get a drink of water at my grandma's house this way.

I used one for water at a barn I rented (in my younger years). Mine had to be primed with water before using, so I had to bring water with me when I drove to the barn. In the winter sometimes it would freeze up. Then I had to break the ice on a stream in the neighbor's field and dip buckets to carry to the barn for my 3 horses and 2 cows. --Merrie
