Well, not the first time I've been wrong! :-) That makes a bit more sense. There's so much interest in traditional dances these days, can't keep track.
Hi dondi. They spoke with an East European accent - Latvian/Polish? I only know they weren't speaking English. I'll post a jigsaw of the men in costume.
Well, *that* made for an interesting puzzle! Can't say, but I'll wager they're English - although I can't guess what dance they're doing, and whether it's traditional British. We have many dance troupes, from children to elderly, who do all kinds of dances from Balkan to British to Scottish, and they build appropriate costumes. There are a number of traditional British women's dances, counter to the Morris tradition, many of which were done by groups of mill girls - garland and clog dances, for instance. The people who do them here have rather involved costumes not unlike these (there's a festival every spring in which groups come from all over New England to perform).
The women certainly don't look Balkan, which would be another guess. And they don't look ornate enough to be Swiss, which was my next consideration.
