Thanks Lunie for your information. Sorry, if I'd Known,I would never had posted fakes. Thanks Janet for your info. The captain was very misleading! I have another photo of a true banana plant.
They are beautiful thanks dear Maureen, but they are made from fabric I think. The bananas that grow around here have deep red flower and one hangs down from each tree on a long stalk. These are fabulous! Hugs my friend ♥♥
Willy, banana blossoms come out when a banana plant is ready to bear fruit, but we usually eat them as vegetable too. They are cooked with coconut cream or eaten as salad with vinegar after being blanched in hot water. A blossom has lots of petal layers, in between each layer has a bunch of fruit and when these are all shed off, the whole bunch of banana fruit comes out and are ready to mature, that is what we eat. Both table and cooked bananas have similar blossoms.
These ones i guess are made of textile material Maureen, look at the sepals, very evident that they are folded cloth. And banana blossoms do not come out plentry per plant. There is only one blossom in a plant unless it is a freak one. Decorative bananas have this blossoms while edible bananas are colored red mostly. At our backyard were lots of banana plants and they are very prolific and make the soil damp where mushrooms thrive very well. But then they make a lovely site, mushrooms and bananas. Just sharing what i learned from childhood, Thanks.
